Preventative Maintenance for Used Motorcycles
While a used motorcycle may have a shorter lifespan than a new model, that doesn’t mean its service life will end anytime soon! With the right preventative care and maintenance, a used motorcycle can last for years to come while still exhibiting top performance. To learn how to keep your used motorcycle in tip-top shape, be sure to check out our helpful maintenance tips below.
Cleaning
Keeping your used motorcycle clean and pristine can do a lot to lengthen its lifespan and ensure your model continues to perform at its best. While we recommend giving your model a good scrub every 3 months or so, and twice a year we advise applying a protective wax and polish on your model to help prevent rust and corrosion.
Tires
Because your tires are likely a bit older, you’ll need to keep a close eye on them to ensure you don’t end up with a flat. Be sure to inspect the tread on your tires every 3 to 6 months to ensure they haven’t worn down below 2 centimeters, check and refill the air pressure as necessary, and keep an eye out for any objects stuck in the rubber that could lead to an air leak or flat.
Battery
To extend the life of your battery, we recommend giving it a quick cleaning every 6 months or so. Start by wiping down the outside of the battery with a damp cloth, removing any debris that may be in the way, and be sure to clean the poles of your battery with a mixture of water and baking soda afterward to help deter corrosion and wear.
