The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is a 10-day motorcycle rally held once a year in the Black Hills region of South Dakota. It consists of coordinated motorcycle rides, competitions, and live music performances, among many other events. The first Sturgis Rally occurred in 1938, and it has since grown to become one of the biggest motorcycle events in the country, regularly attracting an average of 500,000 attendees. If you are interested in attending the Sturgis Rally, Willamette Valley Indian Motorcycle®  has created this helpful guide to help you prepare.

Find a Place to Stay

With more than 500,000 people set to attend, accommodations are sure to fill up quickly, so be sure to reserve your space in advance. Though not everyone will likely stay for the entire 10-day-long event, there will be a lot of competition for whatever spots become available partway through the rally. Choose between any of the numerous lodging options nearby, including hotels, rental homes, and campgrounds/RV parks. Don’t be afraid to do a little digging to find accommodations that really work for you.

Attend a Few Concerts

One of the biggest draws when it comes to Sturgis, other than getting to meet so many other bikers, is the music. You can catch multiple concerts playing at local venues, including some famous names. If you have trouble getting into the major events or prefer something less hectic, there are also several smaller stages scattered around the city holding their own concerts.

Check Out the Ride Maps

The main reason that Sturgis is held in the Black Hills region is that the area has some of the most breathtaking natural scenery you’ll find anywhere. Between meeting other bikers and attending amazing concerts, take some time to enjoy a scenic ride. The area is home to several iconic locations, including Mt. Rushmore, Devil’s Tower, and Bear Butte.
