Motorcycles are powerful, thrilling, efficient, and convenient ways to get around—they can even make commuting and running errands exciting! But these machines come in many shapes, sizes, and specialties, so it can be difficult to find the one that really meets your needs.

We here at Willamette Valley Indian Motorcycle® want to help you get the perfect ride, so we’ve put together some information on the different types of motorcycles and their main uses, below. To learn more, or to see the motorcycles we have for sale, contact our store in Eugene, Oregon, today!

Sport Bikes

If your priority is speed, agility, and raw power, sports bikes are the motorcycles for you. The sprinters of the motorcycle family, these machines prioritize acceleration, speed potential, and overall performance. The sleek, futuristic look helps improve their aerodynamics while also imparting a distinct style and look. Riders will sit in a forward-leaning position with their legs brought close to their bodies by the high footpegs, which helps add to the aerodynamics and stabilizes the center of gravity.

Touring Motorcycles

In contrast to sport bikes, touring motorcycles are more akin to cross-country runners. They’re longer and wider and are built for long-distance riding with the storage capacity, fuel efficiency, power, and comfort features needed to make the trip a breeze. Windshields help reduce wind fatigue, broader frames and tires improve stability, and better seating keeps riders comfortable and fresh no matter the journey.

Cruisers

Cruiser motorcycles are probably what your mind goes to first when you think about motorcycles. They’re the middle-ground between touring and sport bikes and are built to “cruise” through city streets and down the highway. They’ve got good handling and acceleration.

Choppers

One of two subtypes of the cruiser, these get their name from the “chopped-down” aesthetic and are fashioned after the motorcycles of the biking golden age in the 1950s. Ape-hanger handlebars and an extended front fork give choppers their iconic look, though they can be challenging for beginning riders to control.

Power Cruisers

As the name implies, these are beefed-up versions of the typical cruiser with more power, a larger and more modern chassis, and more advanced technologies.
